No more elementary school for Kate!

She met the occasion with many emotions. Excitement, joy, sadness, and pride. She was happy about finishing 5th grade. It’s exciting to grow and move up. Mix this with the knowledge that she will not be going to the same middle school as her friends. She was selected for the local arts magnet school and is very excited about that, but also apprehensive. Academically, she was rewarded the President’s Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

This morning I took Alexander to his soccer game (left the camera at home). They tied their rival 5 to 5.

This afternoon the three of us got dirty planting some tomato and basil.

And harvesting a big bunch of lettuce.

If that isn’t enough green!

We decided to put our free green table to use producing some art. I broke out some good paper, paints, pastels, etc.

This is Kate’s last year for the elementary school talent show. She did a solo dance to a popular song called Grenade. I helped her choreograph. She was so poised and confident.

FO–Fish Hat

This hat was an instant hit. I saw it on a fellow dance mom/ knitter’s daughter. She said the pattern is free; “just google fish hat” So I did…here.

Then Kate took the mostly finished hat from my knitting bag and wore it around for a few days. I grabbed it, threw it in the wash, wove in the ends and sewed on button eyes. NOW it’s finished!

And she loves it

Breakfast for Dinner

Since the weather can’t seem to follow the calendar and we are still in winter mode, we had waffles for dinner on Saturday. ( My computer wasn’t working last week.) Kate very carefully placed her food and took this photo (using my camera under super supervision). I think it looks as yummy as it was!

Coco turns 1

Kate’s puppy is officially 1 year old. To celebrate, she got a selection of new chew toys in the hopes of putting those snaggled teeth to productive use instead of destructive! We were told by the vet, that she should be done growing (now at 41lbs.) and we all hope that’s true.

Last week in context looks like:

Kate has a very fashionable boot on her foot. Turns out she has a partially torn tendon in her foot. And she can’t even say it’s from dancing… she landed on it while sledding in the ice! She limped around on it for about a week before I relented and took her to the doc. Some bad mom I am huh?! She’ll have to have the boot at least until our next appointment on Monday, but maybe a couple more weeks after that. Bummer!

As is our family tradition we went to the tree farm and cut our Christmas tree. This year my brother and his family joined us. We hiked out to the trees and the Scott’s made quick work of choosing and cutting. The Morey’s, on the other hand, couldn’t seem to pick and each of the 3 kids had a turn with the saw. As the sun set on the brisk evening we gathered back at the car for hot chocolate and cookies…desert before dinner! (We did have dinner together too!)
